Project Description

The Economics of Healthy Eating – learning about finances by budgeting and purchasing healthy food at the Jacksonville Farmer’s Market following a program at the JA Financial Literacy Center. $2,500 would provide the funding for 500 Title I school students to purchase their healthy food.

In partnership with Duval County Public Schools, every 3rd grade student in a Duval County public school attends the JA Financial Literacy Center located in the New Town area of Jacksonville. A program is provided each day of the school year. The Economics of Healthy Eating is one of two programs taught during the day. Students learn about Go! Slow! and Whoa! foods. They budget a healthy menu and are then provided with $5.00 to purchase their budgeted items from the Jacksonville’s Farmer’s market which they visit at the end of the day on their way back to school.
